Plot

Night Bug (dir. by Kim Tae-Yong)

Han-Jae meets gay men at a bar in Jongno District, Seoul. He first meets them through an internet site. Once they get drunk, Han-Jae steals their money. He is accompanied by Hoon and pretends he is his boyfriend. Hoon is popular, but Han-Jae ignores Hoon’s feelings for him. One day, Hoon suddenly kisses Han-Jae.

Background

Choco Bank is about a guy named Kim Eun-haeng (Kim Jong-in), who is a college graduate entering the workforce. His father made sure he had a lucky start in life by giving him a name that meant the word bank. Eun Haeng (meaning Bank in Korean) will deal with the concerns many in their 20s struggle with when they start working for the very first time.[1] He was unemployed for five years. He later meets a girl named Ha Cho-co (Park Eun-bin) who is getting ready to start a business. The story plays out as the two meet and find out more about the financial service industry.

Plot

Hwan-Hee (Yoo Seung-Ho) is the most sought after magician in the Moorangroo, a popular red-light district area in Uiji of the Joseon Dynasty. Hwan-Hee suffers personally from his abusive childhood. As a child, he was physically abused by Gwi-Mol (Kwak Do-Won), a magician from the Qing Dynasty. Hwan-Hee and his friend Bo-Eum (Jo Yoon-Hee) eventually ran away from Gwi-Mol. To this day, they worry about Gwi-Mol.

Meanwhile, Cheong-Myung (Go Ara) is a Princess of the Joseon Dynasty. She travels to the Qing Dynasty to marry the Prince of the Qing Dynasty. She doesn’t want to get married, but she had no choice due to her family. On the way to Qing, she stops with her group in Uiji of the Joseon Dynasty. There, she meets Hwan-Hee near a cliff on the mountainside. Hwan-Hee is unaware that Cheong-Myung is a princess, but he falls in love with her. Cheong-Myung also falls for Hwan-Hee’s free-spirited ways. The violent magician Gwi-Mol is set to return to Joseon in search of Hwan-Hee and Bo-Eum and a conspiracy is set to take place within the Princess’ inner circle.

Plot

Based on the real story of Shin Jae-Hyo and Chae-Sun.

In 1867, Shin Jae-Hyo (Ryoo Seung-Ryong) leads the Dongrijungsa which teaches pansori (traditional Korean musical storytelling). A young girl, Chae-Sun (Bae Suzy), who wants to perform pansori, appears in front of him. Chae-Sun has dreamed of performing pansori since she first heard Shin Jae-Hyo perform when she was little, but Shin Jae-Hyo turns her down because women are not allowed to perform pansori.

Chae-Sun then disguises herself as a man and enters the Dongrijungsa to learn pansori, but Shin Jae-Hyo doesn’t accept her as his student. One day, he hears Daewongun (Kim Nam-Gil), the most powerful man in Joseon and the father of the King, is going to hold a national competition of pansori performers known as “Naksungyeon.”

Shin Jae-Hyo decides to teach Chae-Sun who has a true voice to perform  “Chunhyangga.” If anyone finds out that Chae-Sun is a woman, Shin Jae-Hyo and Chae-Sun will both face death.

Notes

  1. Korean title “Dorihwaga” refers to a particular song that is a danga. Danga are short song, sung to relieve the throat before singing a pansori (a traditional Korean musical storytelling performance).
  2. The danga “Dorihwaga” was written by pansori writer Shin Jae-Hyo (played by Ryoo Seung-Ryong in the movie) for his pupil Chae-Sun (played by Bae Suzy in the movie).
  3. Filming began September 10, 2014 & finished January 2, 2015 in Namwon, Jeollabuk Province, South Korea. Shooting locations include Andong, Hapcheon, Namwon, Buan, Suncheon, Buyeo, Suwon, Yongin, Namyangju and Seoul, South Korea.

Synopsis :
